Client: Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA)
McKay Finnigan and Associates was contracted in spring of 2009 to develop and implement a public consultation process and to assist with the formal application for rezoning as required to enable the use of the site, formerly the Sharon Home, as a multi-agency addictions centre.  The proposed development would house community agencies that provide residential treatment programs, community-based treatment programs, and information, prevention and education services – all under one roof. The proponents of the centre have made a commitment to approach the design and on-going operations of the proposed development in a manner that is respectful of those who live in the surrounding neighbourhood.

A key component of the project was the public consultation process and a public meeting during the summer of 2009. The overall approach taken to the meeting involved reaching out to the existing residents in the area as a new “good neighbour” and inviting all within a few blocks of the site to a meeting that would not only provide information regarding the proposed development but also the opportunity for area residents to share their views.

The project has since been constructed and is currently in operation.
